IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU.
MY MOM HAS THIS WEIRD THING WITH GENDER NEUTRAL NAMES, SO I’VE PERFECTED EXPLAINING “IT’S RANDI WITH AN I” TO MY STARBUCKS BARISTA.
I’m a journalist, Chicago resident and Michigan native. I started this blog in 2012 as a way of documenting my senior year of undergrad and life after college while working on my web development skills, and it has slowly evolved into so much more.
Now, it’s my own editorial platform for talking about working, playing and living in the Midwest.
Work ∙ I work full time as a digital news editor at the Chicago Tribune. I majored in journalism, and I’m really passionate about news, digital storytelling, branding and marketing. I also, of course, love to write.
Play ∙ When I’m not at my day job, I’m either binging on Netflix (most likely option), reading or exploring everything Chicago has to offer. I cannot get enough of this city’s amazing food (aka: brunch), summer street festivals or cultural attractions. (I’m totally guilty of loving the tourist traps, guys.)
Live ∙ I love all things lifestyle; including fashion, decor, traveling, cooking and entertaining. I like to keep things real, because let’s be honest, nobody’s life looks like a Pinterest board — especially when you’re a 20-something in a tiny city apartment. When I travel, I prefer short trips to accessible destinations because of those 9-to-5 (well, in my case, 6-to-4) responsibilities. Hashtag adulting.
I usually have my iPhone in one hand and a large coffee (black, please) in the other. If I’m not holding a cup of coffee with a pink lipstick stain on the lid, I’m holding a glass of craft beer, riesling or rosé. I love vegetarian food and have an incurable sweet tooth. I will always tune in if Harry Potter happens to be playing on ABC Family, and I flip (er, tap?) through Kindle books like nobody’s business. I’m a diehard hockey fan, a chronic snooze-button presser and I will go out of my way to pet your dog.
“Randi with an i” is a compilation of everything I love, laid out for you with a few splashes of peach and an always-healthy dose of sass.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy creating it!
