Sneak peek: Daighna Photography shoot

February 17, 2015 August 16, 2016 Randi31 comments1414 views

My friend Daighna is, hands down, one of the most talented editorial photographers I know.

(Hey, Vogue, are you listening? Hire her.)

She runs her own photo business, Daighna Photography, and in addition to weddings and senior portraits (you should book her btw), she’s very talented at putting together fashion magazine-esque photoshoots that channel all of her creative energy.

Her ideas always come completely out of left field, seem completely random and always just completely work. I stopped questioning her crazy visions years ago because whatever she puts together to shoot always just ends up looking straight up amazing.

Want proof? Here’s a shoot I helped her with two years ago.

So, when Daighna asked me a few weeks ago if I’d like to help her with another editorial photoshoot, I jumped at the opportunity.

The two of us met at her apartment Monday morning and spent about six hours switching between four outfits and two makeup changes. She used several props and garments, including – but not limited to – fox fur, tulle, a wedding dress, statement necklaces, a large mirror, a Victorian-esque couch, slouchy socks, a floral crown, a plastic grocery bag and a leather harness.

Curious? I am too. Daighna showed me a few of the raw shots she captured, but the photos still have to undergo extensive editing before they’re fully finished. I will definitely share the results though! The last creative editorial shoot she did with me turned out phenomenal (in case you missed that link the first time around), and I’m sure this one will be just as awesome!

Have you ever participated in a creative photoshoot? What was it like? Let me know in the comments!

We can try? But I’m just picturing lots of awkward arms and derp faces because we both know how incapable we are of taking things seriously…

It’s a blessing and a curse. I love the results, but hanging around photographer friends means I need to do my makeup and hair every day. And, yunno, wear pants… lol. 🙂

Randi stop, I can’t, your life is too amazing, you’re always doing such fun things! Seriously though, I’m very excited to see how these photos turned out, your description sounds amazing. I took a look at the previous shoot that you had and it’s super impressive! Definitely very editorial 🙂

Thanks Dolce! I’ve just had an eventful past few weeks or something, because I swear 80 percent of my life is either work, sleep or Netflix! I’m excited to see how they turn out too, and I hope you guys all like them!

I’m excited to see what you guys came up with based on the previous two shoots. The location for the good girl gone glam rock looks so cool (and pretty much perfect for the direction of the shoot), and she worked with the light so beautifully!

It was such an awesome location! I really wish I could have seen it back in its prime, or had more photos of the building itself to share. Daighna definitely has an eye for this, that’s for sure!
