Weekly recap time!

A Michigan woman was selected as a finalist for a one-way trip to colonize Mars. I personally think the most interesting part of this is that, while the finalist does not have children, she has a husband, who is 100 percent supportive of her ambitions and dreams. Relationship gold standard in my opinion. A+++ for both of them.
Emma Watson is not dating Prince Harry.
Everyone in the world got engaged last weekend and now you’re a bridesmaid. Or something. Levo League has a piece on how to be a good bridesmaid despite being broke.
Refinery29 published an interesting piece profiling several women who had the same problem: Their husbands treated their careers like hobbies. Many of them ended up getting a divorce. Interesting perspective, especially for me, because whomever I end up marrying (should I ever marry) will have to understand he takes a back seat to my career and professional development.
OATMEAL NUTELLA MUG CAKEÂ Thanks The Kitchn.
I’ve been trying to figure out forever what shape my face is, mainly so I know whether I can pull off a pair of Karen Walker Super Dupers. This Lifehacker guide should help.
Cosmo posted a survey on workplace sexual harassment. I worked as a waitress in a bar for years, so I’ve had my fair share of sexual harassment by customers and knew how prevalent it was, but I was astonished at the results regardless.
Dove and Twitter are partnering for #speakbeautiful. It’s so easy to troll online due to anonymity, so I love positive campaigns like these. One of my good friends is a teacher and goes by the “three positives to counteract a negative” rule an insists her students follow it. I think it works well outside the classroom too.

Anddd me this week? Unfortunately it was like NEGATIVE EIGHTEENÂ outside this week before we even added in the windchill, so I wasn’t super productive. I…
- Participated in a glamour photoshoot with Daighna Photography.
- Got a visit from my favorite pug in the world, Chewbacca.
- Made this cute Press for Champagne craft.
- Got my new 50mm lens!
- Enjoyed some lemon Paczki with Elise for Fat Tuesday. (Is this really just a huge Michigan thing? I’m slowly starting to find out that not everyone shares my love for Paczki across the country.)
- Received some pretty treats from Le Bon Macaron from Seth as a belated Valentine’s Day gift.
- Did some more painting of old furniture (I promise I’ll share some updates on this stuff soon).
- Made some toasted coconut Trader Joe’s pancakes. Delicious, by the way.
- Was treated to two wonderful lunch dates by Seth – one at Panda Express and one at Killer Hibachi.
- Ventured outside my really warm and cozy apartment for once in order to go to my favorite downtown bar, The Bird.
You can keep up with this stuff as it happens if you follow me on Instagram.
I don’t really have too many plans this coming week aside from work, errands and tax filing. Really though, I’ll probably put the tax filing off for another week or three.
How was your week? Any plans this coming week? Let me know in the comments!
Macarons! Glad you had some as well! Loving all these ideas. The oatmeal Nutella cake sounds great and I love the one about women who had husbands that didn’t support their career. That was definitely interesting and always like articles that can put things into perspective! Hope you had a great weekend.

Thanks for stopping by and offering your insight! I’m trying so hard to eat healthy now that all the Valentine’s goodies (like the macarons!) are gone, but dang it that Nutella cake just looks so good!
I’m so sad that Emma and Harry aren’t dating. Even though I have no vested interest in either of them.

That child would have been a genetic lotto winner.
Despite the fact that is was super cold this week it still sounds like you were productive! To be honest I didn’t really know about Paczki’s until I moved to Chicago. It seems like last year everyone went crazy for them. I still haven’t tried one yet. I saw them in the store last week and was, “Hey it’s these things! Is it that one day? Should we try it?” Naaaah haha :p Maybe next year we’ll try it.

I didn’t know they were kind of a Midwest thing until several friends who had moved to Florida said they weren’t available down there! So strange since there are literally parades dedicated to Fat Tuesday here in Michigan!
For not having a productive week I feel like you’ve had a super productive week ha! Can’t wait to see photos of the new lens, have fun with it!

Thanks! Can’t wait for it to warm up a bit so I can start using it!
hiya randi, the karen walker super dupers seem to look amazing on everyone… except me. they look funny on me! 😛 you’re going to love that lens. that was the lens i used to learn more about photography and you can do so much with it.
p.s. i learned to snowboard in my mid twenties so its not too late for you! 🙂

Haha, that’s good to know! I’m just super injury-prone so perhaps I should wait until I have a good health insurance plan! I have a very strange face and have been trying to figure out for ages what it is shaped like (still don’t know) so I’m hoping I can pull the Super Dupers off!
I heard about the one-way trip thing to Mars! That’s pretty crazy that a husband is supportive of that knowing that he may never see her again! Hope you stay warmer this week, it sounds freezing over there!

Thanks!
Hahah Chewbaka is just about the best pet name, ever. I definitely laughed into my coffee about that one. And those Dove campaigns always give me goosebumps- their messages are just *So* wonderful. I always feel so much better and put together after listening to their commercials. Now if only more companies were like that 🙂

Messages on a Napkin
Haha, his name is from Star Wars! My boyfriend has had him since high school – way before I knew him – so I had nothing to do with the name. I still think it’s cute!
so sad about emma & harry haha. but in positive news, that pug is everything

I knoooowww- that child would have been the genetic lotto winner! And yes, this pug is a very spoiled little guy, haha.
for another week or three haha! I actually just got off the phone with a tax office and scheduled my appointment… I keep forgetting so I’m glad I actually remembered today! Congrats on the new lens! I have been wanting a 50mm for awhile. I hope you love it! 🙂

Getting a tax return is theeeee best, but the process you have to go through to get it? Not so much! And thanks! I’m excited to start using it once it warms up a bit.
Oatmeal nutella mug cake?! Omg that sounds amazing. Sounds like you had a nice week, lots of good food there 🙂 xx
