I just wanted to take a quick second to share my second finished knitting project: Purl Soho’s no-purl ribbed scarf!
(Original pattern here.)
I actually started this project before I finished my “first” project…
…and then I also finished this project before I finished my “first” project.
I think abandoning a work-in-progress for a new project, though, makes me a real knitter?
I decided to take this project on as a Christmas gift for my mom — which is also why I promptly abandoned my sweater the second my yarn arrived the day after Thanksgiving.
Deadlines, people!
I learned a few new skills with this project. I learned how to slip stitches and got a little bit better at moving my working yarn from front to back. I learned how to join yarn mid-project (I used the spit and splice method) and also how to place and (unfortunately) use lifelines.
I got a little better at “tinking” (that’s un-knitting, aka, knitting backwards — K N I T backwards is T I N K, get it?!) and reading my knitting as well.
The full details of this project are up on my Ravelry page. I followed the step-by-step instructions exactly. I used Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Merino yarn in 54 Stonewash, and blocked the final product once I wove in the ends.
I love the way it turned out! The cartridge belt rib stitch pattern is SO beautiful — especially considering how easy it is! Once I got the hang of the pattern, which is essentially just knit 3, slip 1, it was mostly a mindless project that I could just put my fingers on autopilot for.
I was able to work on it a bit while watching Christmas movies, while venturing out to chop down a Christmas tree, while talking with friends around a wood-fired stove and during virtual work meetings.
I definitely think I’ll make this again, maybe as a blanket? In the mean time, I can’t wait for my next project!
