REI Anniversary Sale picks

May 18, 2024 May 18, 2024 Randi709 views

It’s REI Anniversary Sale time!

No joke, I look forward to this annual sale so much that I usually get my order confirmation email before I get my “the Anniversary Sale has started” email.

I wanted to write this post sooner, but Ryan and I unexpectedly went down to Phoenix last night to see my Detroit Tigers play the Arizona Diamondbacks, and before that, I was on a fire assignment for about 10 days.

So, short of placing this year’s order (these camping utensils and this solar panel) immediately, I haven’t had time to sit down and write this post out until just now.

Some stuff I own, use and love.

Outdoors and rec gear can get expensive. I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars over the past few years outfitting myself for the outdoor hobbies I love: Hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, paddle boarding, running, yoga, etc. — and I’m not even into the more expensive of those hobbies… like mountain biking, mountaineering, diving or skiing.

And I’m not saying that to brag — I’m saying that because while a lot of my hobbies are low-cost once you break the initial financial entry barrier… that barrier can be really shitty to break down.

So… sales like the REI Anniversary Sale are so clutch. I’m lucky that I can access pro deals on a lot of the brands and products that I love, but I rely so much on my gear for work and for personal use that I still rely heavily on this sale annually.

If you’re not familiar with the sale, it’s fantastic. REI members get up to 30 percent off some pretty big-name outdoors brands, like The North Face, Garmin, NEMO, JetBoil, Dometic, and — of course — REI-branded gear.

Members also get a 20%-off coupon to use on any full-priced product.

If you’re not a member, I highly recommend joining. A one-time $30 membership fee gets you access to all of the incredible deals, and a membership usually pays for itself on your first purchase anyway.

So, with that said — here are some products I use and love that are currently on markdown at the REI Anniversary Sale!

30% OFF ALL REI-BRANDED ITEMS

I love my Flash 22 hiking pack (I have an older model), Flexlite Air Chair and Half Dome 3+ tent (I have an older model) with its matching footprint.

My REI Half Dome 3+ tent at Manzanita in Sedona.
25% OFF ALL DANNER FOOTWEAR

I religiously wear my Danner Mountain Light hiking boots ALL THE TIME. They’re pricy but they’re one of my favorite outdoors purchases ever.

My Danner Mountain Light boots (outfitted with Kahtoola MICROspikes) hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail.
25% OFF ALL RUFFWEAR PET GEAR

We have a full collection of Ruffwear gear for our huskies! Some of our favorites are the Roamer Bungee Leash, Front Range harness, Float Coat Dog Life Jacket, Grip Trex dog boots and the Palisades Pack, which features removable saddle bags for overnight backpacking trips or longer day hikes.

Yukon was not the biggest fan of his Float Coat life jacket… or his bungee leash.
25% OFF ALL NEMO SLEEPING BAGS, SLEEPING PADS AND PILLOWS

My NEMO Riff 15 is my favorite sleeping bag, and I swear my hybrid inflatable/ foam Fillo camping/ backpacking pillow is more comfortable than most traditional pillows.

25% OFF ALL ENO PRODUCTS

I love my ENO SingleNest hammock and the accompanying Atlas straps.

Camping at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with my Eno hammock system.
30% OFF ALL BIG AGNES TENTS AND FOOTPRINTS

Ryan and I love our Copper Spur ultra-light tent (we have an older version) for backpacking trips.

Our Copper Spur ultra-light tent during our Superstitions backpacking trip.
25% OFF JETBOIL COOK GEAR

Ryan and I use a Jetboil Flash cook system with a matching french press for camping trips.

25% OFF THE LANDMARK PROJECT T-SHIRTS

I have a few of these in older/ various (mostly Smokey Bear) designs! I love them because not only are they adorable… they also do a lot of good.

25% OFF ALL PRANA HALLE BOTTOMS (AND STRETCH ZION PANTS/ SHORTS)

My PrAna Halle pants are my favorite hiking and work pants — I own them in several colors and cuts.

My PrAna Halle pants (and those Danner Mountain Light boots!) during a work hiking trip on the Tahoe National Forest.
25% OFF ALL BLACK DIAMOND GEAR

My Storm 450 headlamp and my Trail Series trekking poles are two of my favorites for hiking.

I’m not a big outdoor climber and prefer to stick to our top-roping gym here in Flag so take my advice with a grain of salt, but I love my Momentum harness (I have the men’s version) and RockLock TwistLock belay carabiner (I have an older version).

25% OFF ALL SMARTWOOL SOCKS

Smartwool socks are my favorite. The Smartwool Hike Light socks (men’s and women’s ankle and/or crew height) are my favorite for hiking boots, Smartwool’s targeted cushion running socks are my go-to for hiking with trail runners or running and I wear Smartwool’s bike zero cushion low ankle socks for spin class.

30% OFF ALL SAUCONY FOOTWEAR

I wear my Saucony Peregrine trail runners for both trail running and hiking.

So, those are my picks! Anything you’re eyeing at REI?
