7/12.
I spent exactly half of this month tied up on my most recent fire assignment, so the things I did outside of work were pretty scant.
I took my paddle board out for its first trip of this summer on a day trip to Clear Creek Reservoir in Winslow. The weather was a hot 104°F, but otherwise absolutely perfect. There was just enough of a breeze to cool us down, and after about four hours of paddling, my friend Zoe and I made it off the water about five minutes before a storm rolled in.

A dozen or so friends and I checked out the City of Flagstaff’s drone show on the Fourth of July. While I do have a few minor criticisms (we were located inside the “best views” viewing area, but our view was still far away and obstructed with a lot of the graphics displaying sideways — and the show was so short, only 20 minutes!), I still thought it was a pretty cool free event with minimal risk of setting our town on fire. I’m hoping the city works the bugs out and does another, longer, show next year.

I finally got around to trying downtown Flagstaff’s Morning Glory Cafe earlier this month. I had a hemp burger, which was pretty decent!

Ochi recently tried out a new doggie day camp… and he passed! Not with flying colors, but a pass is a pass. We’ve been worried about socializing him with other dogs after the shelter we adopted him from indicated that he’s basically a reactive nightmare, but as it turns out, that couldn’t be further from the truth. He did great in a big yard with all the other campers, and came home incredibly tired afterward.

Ryan and I made an incredible grilled peach and burrata salad for dinner a few weeks ago. If you’re interested in replicating it, it’s spring mix topped with red onions, toasted walnuts, halved cherry tomatoes, grilled peaches, torn basil, salt, black pepper, burrata and a balsamic vinaigrette, served with grilled ciabatta on the side. Yum!

Hoping August brings a bit less time at work and a bit more time to enjoy summer!
