A weekend in San Francisco + the Bay Area

February 1, 2022 February 3, 2022 Randi669 views

I’m not gonna lie. When I found out that my new work assignment was sending me to an office located in a town of 2,000, I was a little nervous.

My hometown’s population was about 2,000, and I did nooooot like it one bit.

But, after a few months here, I have to admit: Being based in Nevada City is REALLY sweet.

I’m one hour from Sacramento, one hour from Truckee and Lake Tahoe and two hours from San Francisco.

Not bad at all, right?

One of my friends that I worked with back at the Tribune relocated to the Bay Area a few years ago, so I set aside a weekend to visit her.

My last trip to San Francisco was, uh, less than stellar. So, I’m really really glad to say that this trip was significantly better.

I drove out Saturday morning, and the first thing we did was go to Sweet Maple for brunch.

Brunch! I missed you!

Hi Alex!

Alex then humored me and did alllll the touristy stuff with me. We walked around Bernal Heights Park, went to see the Golden Gate Bridge, walked through Golden Gate Park and went to watch the sunset at Ocean Beach.

Not used to this view after a hike!
Hello, yes, I am a basic tourist, thank you.
Not bad.
I forgot how much I love the ocean.

After the sun set, we drove back to Alameda (where Alex lives) and had dinner at Sushi House.

I’ve never lived in a GOOD seafood town given that I’ve moved from the Midwest to Eastern Europe to the freakin desert, so let me tell you, I always forget how amazing seafood is on the coast.

We had ALL OF THIS SASHIMI FOR LIKE $35.

I felt rich, let me tell you.

Amazing, right?

After dinner we went back to Alex’s place and watched “Don’t Look Up” (highly recommend) before going to bed.

We spent Sunday a little bit north of the Bay Area… and I can’t wait to fill you in on that more tomorrow!
