S#!T I’ve been loving lately (December 2022 edition)

December 15, 2022 February 13, 2023 Randi627 views

I’m here with a new feature-y type of post I suppose…

Shit I’ve been loving lately!

Every so often, like, a few times a month, I stumble upon some cool shit I want to share with friends. I usually post some of this stuff on Instagram and get questions about it, or if I REALLY love something, I annoy the absolute shit out of my friends and family with videos of it.

“LOOK! MOM! LOOK HOW COOL THIS IS!”

Like, for example, I bought a new bread box-slash-cutting board (keep on reading for details), and posted a video on Instagram of it (keep on reading for video, also), and had SIX people ask for details on it.

For a niche kitchen gadget? Seems like a lot.

So, I wanted to start a new little feature series detailing some of the shit I’ve been loving lately. It won’t all be things I’ve bought, but will also be random things I’ve been infatuated with as of late. Authors and artists, apps and websites, games, retailers, activities and hobbies… nothing’s off the table, really.

For example…

・・・

A variety of shit I’ve been liking lately, all laid out in visual form.

The Paprika app. I paid the $4 for this app, and started using it to meal plan, save recipes and grocery shop. It’s incredible! I even made Ryan download it. It makes our meal planning and grocery shopping SO much easier because I never have to remember if I have red wine vinegar ever again: this app moves my grocery list to my pantry list once I purchase things so I always know exactly what random ingredients I have on hand in the back of my cupboards.

CycleBar. I never thought I would join a spin studio cult (The whole rise of SoulCycle in the mid-2010s kind of freaked me out a little), but here we are! The yoga studio I teach at (YogaSix) and CycleBar share a parent company, so all the employees at Y6 get free classes at CycleBar. I tried my first class with a bunch of other studio friends right before Thanksgiving and I was immediately hooked.

Yay fitness cults!

Taylor Swift. I binge-listen “Red” every fall without fail, but I’ll never not obsess over a new TSwift album! Some of my friends and I snagged tickets to see her “Eras” tour next year and I am so excited.

My Canon 6D. I mentioned a few posts back that I finally upgraded my trusty old Canon Rebel to a new (to me) Canon 6D. So far, I LOVE it. I break it out a few times a week for everything from family holiday photos to hikes with Yukon.

WEBS: America’s Yarn Store. I recently started knitting, and as soon as I learned how to knit-stitch with my eyes closed, our local yarn store closed down. My coworker-but-really-more-of-a-friend Jane introduced me to yarn.com, and I bought a ton of merino wool yarn (on sale!) to start on some Christmas gifts.

New Ukrainian cookbooks: Budmo and Babusya’s Kitchen. Budmo was a lovely birthday gift from friends, and Babusya’s Kitchen is the official unofficial cookbook that we (Peace Corps Ukraine Volunteers) used during our time in-country. While nothing will ever beet (pun intended) my host momma’s borshch recipe, these books ares still so great.

Two of my greatest loves: Ukraine and cooking in my kitchen.

The Ordinary. I feel like every time I run out of a skincare product, I see if I can find something similar at The Ordinary. Everything is concentrated, simple and really affordable.

Proof to back up my claims.

This bread box with a slide-out cutting board. I am OBSESSED with this thing. It’s actually the thing that sparked this entire post idea. I make a lot of bread, and after getting annoyed with our sub-par storage method (wrapping loaves in a dish towel and setting them on a plastic cutting board), I finally found this genius invention on Amazon and threw it in my cart IMMEDIATELY.

GENIUS!

Our new inflatable SaluSpa hot tub. Yes, we bought an inflatable hot tub. It’s the SaluSpa Vancouver, and it’s pretty damn great for being an inflatable hot tub! (We rent, OK?) We use it four or five time a week. Ryan drinks his coffee in it some mornings.

Big hot tub people now.

My Quip toothbrush. At my dentist’s recommendation, I finally upgraded to an electric toothbrush and OH MY GOD! My mouth has never felt so clean!

・・・

So, that’s just some of the shit I’ve been really into lately. How about you?
