2022 has come to an end, and so has my Goodreads annual reading challenge!
I’m honestly really proud of myself. I read 49 total books this year – which is significantly more than my goal of 25 and WAY more than ANY year since I first started keeping track of my reading.
I get more excited about my Goodreads year-in-review than my Spotify Wrapped, to be honest.
Without further ado, here are the best books I read this year.
・・・
“I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jennette McCurdy. Despite the morbid title, “iCarly” star Jennette McCurdy’s memoir is truly a gem.
“American Dirt” by Jeanine Cummins. I know this book is controversial because it is a book about Mexican migrants written by a white woman, but it is a really enthralling read.
“The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. This book is great if you’re like me, and spend a good amount of time wondering about what could have been. The ending was perfect.
“Bear Town” by Fredrik Backman. This book was so, SO beautifully written! It’s a tragic storyline told with such eloquence and grace. I wish I could have read it in its native language.
“The Four Winds” by Kristin Hannah. Oh, Kristin Hannah, breaking my heart. I cried at least three times at the end of this book and the end left me wanting more.
“The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. Ditto to the above comment.
“The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue” by V.E. Schwab. This one stuck with me! I’ve recommended it to so many friends. The protagonist ends up in such an interesting situation and I’ve found myself thinking, for months afterward, whether it’s the type of life I’d like to live.
“Book Lovers” by Emily Henry. I’m not usually a big romance novel person, but Emily Henry’s books might convert me. I’ve never read a book that was able to convey the chemistry between characters that “Book Lovers” did.
“Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir. This book immediately hooked me! I find scifi to be hit or miss, but “Project Hail Mary” covered biology and engineering in a digestible way, and the ending was incredible.

I’m really excited for 2023 reading. I’m optimistic about some of the books on the Goodreads Most Anticipated list, and I’ve already got a bunch of books from the 2022 Goodreads Choice Awards saved to my Kindle already as well.
I’m hoping I can read just as much (if not more) than this year. I have a goal of 50 books set for 2023, so we’ll see!
