Another list full of stuff I probably didn’t need to buy, but bought anyway.

Zima dental pod. I’ve fallen out of the habit of wearing my retainer over the past year because it’s gotten kind of grimy and gross, and no matter how much I shoved my toothbrush bristles down into the tray, it just never felt CLEAN. I bought an ultrasonic dental pod and some Retainer Brite tablets to clean it with, and WOW. What a difference. My retainer doesn’t feel gritty in my mouth anymore.
Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol sleeping pad. I bought this the day before heading out on my recent two-day one-night backpacking trip outside of Tucson after dealing with leaky inflatable sleeping pads for a while, and this is already a fantastic addition to my overnight backpacking setup.
EPIC smoked salmon strips. Ryan and I picked a package of EPIC salmon bites up at Whole Foods out of curiosity a while back, and then when I saw the jerky form on sale on Amazon, I bought a package. I’m pescetarian (which means I don’t eat meat, only fish) so sometimes protein-packed trail snacks (aka vegetarian protein bars) can get monotonous. These are fantastic and will be staples on day hikes and overnight hikes going forward.
Abercrombie & Fitch’s Curve Love Wide Strap Twist Continuous Underwire Bikini Top. As a small-band and large-cup girlie, I struggle SO hard with finding swimwear that fits. A&F’s Curve Love line is a GAME. CHANGER. This is my second bikini from Curve Love and it fits so well. I am obsessed.
Houseplant sticky stakes. Ryan and I have been plagued lately with gnats and fruit flies, so we’ve started staking these in our planters in every room. What a difference!
TIEM Slipstream spin shoes. After committing to CycleBar enough that I’m now attending a few classes a month, I decided to splurge (with my 20% off REI coupon) on my own pair of spin shoes so I didn’t have to borrow ones from the studio anymore. I picked a pair of TIEM shoes at the recommendation of some friends, and I’m already glad I have them.
Nutritional yeast popcorn. I gave Trader Joe’s Piquant Popcorn a try while I was within close(ish) proximity to a Trader Joe’s during my February work assignment in Glendale. Sadly, we don’t have a Trader Joe’s anywhere near Flag, BUT I figured I could make my own dupe of this popcorn easily enough. And, I was right! A combination of nutritional yeast (bought in bulk from Sprout’s), onion powder, garlic powder, freshly-cracked black pepper and sea salt (all ground up using a mortar and pestle) works really well on air-popped popcorn with a spray of olive oil.
The Flagstaff Public Library’s culture pass program. Ryan and I took advantage of this during our trip to Arcosanti last month. This really cool program lets you “check out” passes to local(ish) museums, exhibits and centers the same way you would check out a book. We were able to get free admission on our tour due to it. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re local to Flag.
Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. Like everyone else, I am still figuring this album out. It’s a chaotic and manic mess, but in a good way. I love Taylor and all of her music. Typically in the past, if I haven’t loved something immediately, it’s grown on me. So I’ll keep listening to this and singing along!
And on that note… my “I cry a lot but I am so productive, it’s an art” mug. It’s unhinged and I love it.
Vital Proteins Daily Greens. Full disclaimer: I don’t love love these. BUT- I like them enough. This is my first venture into the daily greens powder world, and I picked this brand up at Whole Foods a few weeks ago. I’ve been drinking this almost daily, and while I love the noticeable green apple taste, I don’t like the texture or how quickly the powder separates from the liquid. But, I also don’t hate these. I’ll likely finish this container and start experimenting with other brands.
Silpat cooking mat. Ryan and I have typically baked everything we make on parchment paper, which we then compost. After using an 8-inch round Silpat sheet for our bread for months, I finally took the plunge to buy a baking-sheet-sized Silpat mat and wow, what a difference! It crisps fish skin beautifully and makes clean-up a breeze. We don’t have to cut greasy parchment paper into small squares for our Lomi anymore — we can just toss the Silpat mat on the top rack of our dishwasher.
