What I read: March 2026

April 6, 2026 March 29, 2026 Randi93 views

Despite how busy March seemed to be, I still found some time to read a few books this month.

Some better than others.

(As a reminder: I always track my reading on Goodreads.)

The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd

Recommend

What if Jesus (yes, the biblical one) had a wife? And what if she was a feminist? “The Book of Longings” explores that concept. The life of Jesus isn’t well documented until he started his ministry, and Kidd’s fictional piece writes a novel from the perspective of Ana, the wife he had during his ’20s. This book started off pretty slow, but picked up about a third of the way through. I adored Ana, who was fierce and headstrong. I love that she didn’t take a backseat to the character of Jesus once he was introduced to the story, and I love how well-researched this book was as well.

Protect (Sky Ridge Hotshots #2) by Paisley Hope

Don’t recommend

This one’s on me. I read the first book in this smut trilogy last month and gave it two out of five stars. But it was kind of like a train wreck in that I couldn’t look away, and absolutely had to read the second book. It was just as bad as the first if not worse.

The Reformatory by Tananarive Due

Recommend

I loved this book. It’s a long and slow one — close to 600 pages — but the stories of both Robert and his sister Gloria are so beautifully told. It feels a bit fucked up to use the word “beautiful” in a book about such a dark time in U.S. history (this book is set in Jim Crow-era Florida) but Due is an incredible writer. This book left me feeling gutted and hollow, but I’m so glad I read it.
