Hello

It’s nice to meet you! I’m Randi.

And, yes – it’s “Randi with an i,” which I’ve been explaining ever since I learned the alphabet.

I have a hard time sitting still. Right now, I’m living in northern Arizona with my fiancé Ryan and our rescued husky pup Ochi.

I spend my days working in forestry and wildfire information and my nights instructing yoga at a local studio. I’m also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, a former Chicago journalist and a Michigan native.

I started this blog in 2009 as a way of documenting my way through my undergrad journalism program while working on my web development skills, and it has slowly evolved into so much more.

Now, it’s my own editorial platform for talking about working, living and playing here in (and around) Flagstaff.

・・・

Right now, I work full-time in public information for a federal forestry-focused agency — which means I spend a lot of time at wildfires and on mountain trails. Before COVID forced me to relocate to Flagstaff, I was serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer, where I taught English to high schoolers in Ukraine. In a past life, I worked as a digital news editor at the Chicago Tribune. I majored in journalism, minored in media production and obtained my master’s in public administration, so I’m really passionate about public service, multimedia and storytelling.

I love all things lifestyle; including food, fitness (I’m a part-time yoga instructor with an addiction to CycleBar!), skincare, organization, crafting and decor, sustainability, and entertaining. I like to keep things real, because let’s be honest, nobody’s life looks like a Pinterest board — especially when you live with a dusty wildland firefighter and a shedding husky pup.

・・・

You can usually find me with my Kindle in one hand and a large coffee (black, please) in the other.  I love Detroit-style pizza (with a side of ranch dressing) and have an incurable sweet tooth. I will always clear my schedule for good local music shows, I constantly try to eliminate single-use plastic from my life and I spend an insane amount of time switching between Google Tasks and Google Calendar. I’m a diehard hockey fan, a relentless morning person and I will go out of my way to pet your dog.

“Randi with an i” is a compilation of everything I love, laid out for you with a few mediocre iPhone photos and an always-healthy dose of sarcasm and sass.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy creating it!

  1. I would like to offer you $5000 for this domain. Let me know if you might consider that? 🙂

  2. Hello I see you went to Yogpeeth in Rishikesh recently, I am going at the end of march and was hoping you might be willing to share any helpful hints, and or tips about your trip

    1. Hey Joseph! I hope you have a blast. I had such an incredible time at Yogpeeth and I’m definitely jealous! I miss it constantly. I have plenty of posts detailing my time in Rishikesh here if those posts answer any questions you have. The RYT program was a lot in a very short period of time, so don’t be afraid to carve out time for yourself, even if it means skipping classes (if Nitish is still teaching at Yogpeeth, though, don’t skip his classes!). Make sure you carry cash for cabs and don’t forget to pack sandals (or slip-on shoes). Take a look at this post detailing things I’m glad I packed/ things I wish I packed if you haven’t already. Otherwise, if you have specific questions, feel free to shoot me an email. 🙂 Have the ABSOLUTE BEST time!
