It’s blue and black.
And unless you live under a rock, you know what I’m referring to.
#TheDress.
It popped up in my Facebook feed last night: an ordinary white and gold (and somewhat ugly) dress. The caption read “Seriously guys! This is white and gold! How can you see it differently?” I agreed. It was white and gold. I googled “white and gold dress” and it seemed that most of the rest of the Internet agreed with me. There were a few protesters, but I chalked that up to Internet trolls.
I got home from work, and asked my roommate. “It’s white and gold,” she agreed. I scrolled through tweets hashtagged #TheDress, and saw a photo of a blue and black dress in flames. Ah, I thought. Clearly the white and gold opinion wins.
Then, something strange happened.
All of the dresses on my Twitter feed became blue and black.
I asked Elise again, “is this white and gold, or blue and black?”
“White and gold,” she insisted.
My brain stopped working. I poured a glass of wine. And then, the greatest idea ever was born.
#TheDress drinking game.
It’s really simple.
1. Find a friend who has the opposite opinion of you regarding the colors of the dress.
2. Go to a bar with said friend.
3. Bring a picture of the dress (on a phone works)Â in case there are people at said bar who live under rocks.
4. Poll strangers, asking their take on the colors of the dress.
5. Take a drink for whichever stranger shares your opinion regarding the colors of the dress.
And that’s it. A majority of Internet-users seem to think the dress is white and gold, so if you share the white-and-gold opinion, maybe select a drink with a lower APV content.
Almost everybody we polled at the bar already had some opinion regarding the colors of the dress, but a few bar-goers hadn’t heard of the debate yet, so we got to witness a few battles and accidentally tear a few friendships apart.
(If you’re interested in the science behind the dress, you can read about it here.)
So, what color is the dress for you? Blue and black or white and gold? And most importantly- would you wear it? Let me know in the comments!
This is so funny. I heard about this last night when checking my favorite sites. It’s so crazy. I saw it as white and gold but it’s supposed to actually be blue and black. I still don’t know if I can see it that way. Maybe if I tilt my screen a little bit? Haha :p

The Internet is blowing up about this right now so I didn’t want to be redundant with a post, but we had so much fun making new friends at the bar with such an easy conversation (argument?) starter. And I’ve seen it both ways, it’s the strangest thing!
I saw blue and black last night and I am still seeing blue and black! I know some people have said they see white and gold too – I think that’s so cool. I want to look at it and see white and gold! haha!

I’ve seen both of them and it’s super unsettling! I really thought I was losing my mind. I think you’re better off sticking with blue and black! 🙂
This is so interesting…I see white and gold, but I’m kind of second guessing myself now. Definitely fun as a drinking game. 🙂
Haha, we thought so too! Thanks for stopping by!
Well I HAD to read your post. (reverse psychology always works on me). And I LOVE THIS game!! haha. I don’t think I would do it because the hangover I would get the next day would kill me. But it’s a pretty fun idea, specially to talk to random strangers about it.
Haha as soon as I saw your Twitter post about the dress, I was kind of like, “sorry not sorry?” Hahaha. Luckily we cut ourselves off after we hit up half the bar (I was careful to avoid any and all ex-boyfriends) and the hangover damage was minimal. 🙂
Bahahaha. Or how about take a drink anytime anyone mentions the dumb dress again. It’s black & blue by the way.

That sounds like a good way to end up in the hospital with a stomach pump, hah! Although I think the dress is already done and over with.
I also saw it as white and gold – and so did a friend – but her roommate swears up and down that it’s black and blue. Then I saw a picture of the actual dress with good lighting and exposure, and it’s black and blue, and then I saw the original picture as black and blue. It’s so neat but slightly anxiety inducing. It reminds me of my first year in uni when I had to take all of these philosophy courses that made me question whether we were actually seeing the same thing and I just wanted to curl up and never think about those things again. Haha.
Also, I would never wear that dress 😉 No matter the colour scheme.

I’m with you on NEVER wearing that dress. I was 98 percent convinced that everyone that saw it as black and blue was just trolling until it changed before my eyes and I started freaking out!
This is a hilarious idea! For me the dress is gold and white – and all the fuss about it is just crazy – I can’t believe it’s gone so viral so quickly. If only it was my dress! but no – I wouldn’t wear it. It’s a little to tight and strange looking for my taste – though I hear it has sold out everywhere!
That’s the Internet for you- it’s there and then gone! And I agree- horizontal stripes are rarely flattering, even if they’re lace. 🙂
Hahah I love this, I like that the world is a bit obsessed with something scientific, there are loads of cool things like this! I saw it as black and blue, then white and gold and now I can see it as both. It’s cool to think there can be things so on the border of our perception! x

Right? We were talking about how this is likely going to end up in science textbooks in the future. How weird and random is that?! Thanks, Internet!
great post haha! I see it as white and gold and no matter how hard I try I see it no other way!x

I’m trying so hard to see it as white and gold again but now it’s stuck as blue and black! So weird.

Nope, soooo done with the dress, haha.
