It seems like all my college roommates are getting married lately and I’m so unbelievably excited for them!
I celebrated Amanda’s bachelorette party in Nashville last month, and this past weekend was spent in northern Kentucky/ Cincinnati celebrating Caitlin‘s upcoming wedding!
(I’m actually going to be in Caitlin’s wedding this Labor Day weekend, which makes the whole thing even more exciting!)
Last weekend, I took the bus down to Cincinnati to spend a super low key weekend celebrating with Caitlin and some of her closest friends. It was an absolute blast!
This trip was sooo different from last month’s bachelorette party. When I flew to Nashville, the entire trip was GOGOGOGOGO. It was so cool because I got to see so much of Music City and definitely made the most of my short trip, but I was exhausted.
Caitlin’s bachelorette party was a complete 180. The entire trip was chill and stress-free. It’s a little crazy how completely different both parties were, but I think it’s safe to say I loved them both equally!
Anyway, back to recapping the weekend. I took the bus into Cincinnati and arrived Thursday night. Caitlin actually lives in Bellevue, a small town in northern Kentucky just south of the Ohio River, and she was gracious enough to host us all at her house for the weekend.
Our first stop was Darkness Brewing, a brewery pretty close to Caitlin’s house. Then, we started getting ready for the party. We grabbed supplies at Party Source, picked up Caitlin’s future sister-in-law from the airport, made margarita Otter Pops and rosé gummy bears and grabbed dinner at Elusive Cow with Caitlin’s fiancé Sean before he left town for the weekend.
Friday was definitely the most relaxing day of the trip. Because Caitlin is a total workaholic badass jack of all trades — and keeps similar company — we spent the morning cooking breakfast, running more errands, playing games, waiting for the rest of the girls to arrive and working remotely. (We’re probably all insane, but we’ll all run the world one day, so whatever.)
We grabbed a late lunch at The Pretzel Place (cannot stress enough how delicious this place was) and then lounged in Caitlin’s backyard with snacks and wine while waiting for everyone to arrive. Then, we walked to the Old Kentucky Makers Market down the street for shopping and live music before returning to the house for more wine, manicures, games and sheet masks.
We started Saturday with brunch at Bellevue Bistro and checked out some of the shopping along Fairfield Avenue, even stumbling into the opening of a little decor shop named Coda Co., which was adorable.
Then, we let our food settle before we went to an aerial acrobatics class!
Caitlin’s been taking aerial silks classes for a few weeks now, and she’d hyped it up so much that I was super excited to try it.
Guess what? THAT SHIT IS HARD!
I did learn how to do a few poses on the silks, but by the end of the class I was literally hanging upside down from the silks in defeat.
It’s been a week since that class and I am still sore. Circus performers, I have so much respect for you.
After the class, we went back to Caitlin’s house and got dressed up for our night out. We went to Darkness Brewing again, and then took a cab out to the Mainstrasse area of Covington for drinks and appetizers at a British pub named Cock & Bull. One of the girls at the bachelorette party, Elsbeth, actually grew up in England! She let us know that the pub was decently authentic, which was pretty cool.
After drinks and apps, we walked over to Frida 602 for dinner. We all shared pitchers of margaritas and bowls of queso and guacamole, and each of us ordered a slew of tacos. I had the Brussels sprout and peanut tacos… which sounds super weird, but was completely delicious!
That capped off our night. The next morning was spent with an adorable at-home Belgian waffle-and-mimosa bar and a quick stroll around the Ohio and Kentucky border before I boarded my afternoon bus back to Chicago.
I seriously cannot stress enough how amazing it was to have such a relaxing bachelorette weekend. I know I keep saying that, but I didn’t realize how much I really needed a girls’ night full of Ulta facials and Essie manis until Caitlin delivered.
Now, to get ready for the wedding! Eek!
